Our Story

Gente Viva was born from the impetus of Playa Viva, a regenerative hotel that arrived on the Costa Grande of Guerrero more than 20 years ago with a different paradigm: regenerating the land and strengthening communities. From its beginnings, Playa Viva practiced the farm-to-table principle, long before this idea became popular. The garden became a living laboratory where experts in permaculture and regenerative agriculture shared their knowledge with local producers.

Over the years, knowledge expanded beyond the hotel's garden to the Tule River basin. Farmers and families from Juluchuca shared their experiences in workshops and courses, adopting regenerative practices. In 2018, the arrival of Amanda—a permaculture expert and current director—gave new impetus and consolidated the regenerative model, leading sustained growth over the past seven years.

In 2025, Gente Viva took a decisive step: moving beyond simply being the Playa Viva community garden to become a regional network aspiring to be a Food Hub. This network connects local producers with the Mujeres de la Tierra Cooperative , who process agricultural products like turmeric, moringa, and coconut. Today, we are a vibrant movement uniting knowledge, land, and community to regenerate our territory.
